INTERCULTURAL WORKSHOP Comparing French & Irish Values: how to communicate assertively with the French & Irish
In this workshop, we will do an activity on France and Ireland called Cultural Values Contrast to examine and compare values in the two cultures. Davide will present his research on the differences between the French and the Irish by analysing the website Culture Atlas. Once we have an understanding of the values of the two cultures, we will reflect on Assertiveness and Power Distance in different cultures. We will then learn about the four communication styles and do a listening activity taken from In Company 3.0 Intermediate. Finally, we will try out an experiential activity on how to be assertive impersonating a French and an Irish person. The aim of the roleplay is to try out being assertive but also flexible and to accommodate with the person from the other culture. Finding common ground is the most important aspect of becoming interculturally competent. The workshop will be conducted in English and French. This workshop is free, however, if you wish to support SIETAR Italia you may make a donation to the association: our mission is the promotion of intercultural awareness in Italy. The workshop will take place at ISIS GALLI Via Gavazzeni 37 Bergamo on Thursday 11 aprile 2019 from 16.30 to 18.30. Facilitators: Peter Anderson, Fina D'Alessandro and Davide Floridi. To register for the workshop go to www.crtlinguebergamo.it. If you wish to find out more about the Association go to www.sietar-italia.org.
